Carmel Approves 2009 Budget

Carmel will increase its 2009 budget by 11 percent instead of the proposed 19 percent.  In a 6-1 vote, the city council approved the reduced budget of $83,051,578.  The $5.25 million cut was mainly attributed to Mayor Jim Brainard’s promise not to create new jobs in certain city departments.  Specifically, the exceptions include all departments that relate to public safety and/or are revenue generating.
