Carmel, IN- Keystone Project Faces New Challenges

The multi-million dollar Keystone Avenue project, which has been under much scrutiny recently for being over budget, has even more challenges.

Two intersections that have been closed since May were scheduled to reopen next month.  However, according to the contractor, they will now remain closed until June.  Carmel Mayor, Jim Brainard, says the city is considering legal action against the contractor.

City Council members expressed outrage with Mayor Brainard last week saying that he withheld the true cost of the project.  The entire project calls for six intersections to be converted into five roundabouts and was originally estimated to cost $90 million.  The latest estimate puts the cost of the project at $130 million.

Last week, the city of Carmel hired the Indianapolis law firm Bose McKinney & Evans to determine whether the city can sue Milestone, the Indianapolis based contractors working on the project, McBride Engineers were set to meet with the lawyers on March 5th to discuss options and then contact Milestone
